Structural Designer (EIT)

Technical

  • Conceptualize designs with an understanding for constructability
  • Prepare the details of structural design of buildings including commercial, residential, institutional, sports/recreational complexes and bridges
  • Assist with the development of preliminary structural design concepts
  • Assist with design checks for other engineers’ work
  • Work with the project team from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion
  • Ensure quality compliance for your portions of projects by maintaining design/checking
    notes

People Development

  • Seek a mentor or more senior employees to learn from by asking questions and being curious about RJC and the work
  • Create a development plan for your personal and career growth at RJC and be accountable for self development
  • Monitor your development against action plans from performance reviews and be accountable for self development
  • Be accountable for technical self-development, including continuing education

Business

  • Better understand how to assess clients, either internal or external needs by learning their
    business
  • Volunteer to assist with strategic and market-leading business development and
    proposals
  • Practice being responsive to internal and external needs/communications in a
    professional manner
  • Seek opportunities to be involved client meetings by talking to your project team

Leadership

  • Complete work independently and with high quality
  • Gain awareness of RJC’s various areas of specialty expertise (e.g. through networking, shadowing, mentorship, attending internal events, etc.)
  • Complete available Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings and frameworks to be a more diverse leader and contribute to team-specific and RJC-wide goals
  • Responsible for understanding, complying and participating in RJC’s HSE Program including completing required training, participating in hazard identification, assessment and control and informing their People Leader of any unsafe acts or conditions
