Restoration Designer (EIT)

Technical

  • Conduct evaluation fieldwork and supervise those assisting you
  • Assist with site investigations and evaluations of existing building envelopes
  • Assist with the development of evaluation reports and studies including editing and writing new specifications clauses and sections
  • Assist with the preparation of drawings and specifications for various exterior wall and roofing retrofit/rehabilitation projects
  • Design and analyze wall and roofing systems to determine effective repair alternatives and probable costs
  • Coordinate drafting if required
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines
  • Conduct field review during construction
  • Coordinate testing during construction
  • Conduct some or all of the contract administration tasks during construction
  • Attend or chair site meetings during construction; prepare minutes
  • Be accountable for organization of field notes, budget calculations, and checklists
  • Ensure that your work is checked at the appropriate time
  • Be accountable for quality compliance of your projects
  • Work with a Project Engineer/Technologist within the project team environment from conceptual and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion
  • Seek opportunities to present project work to colleagues within and outside department

People Development

  • Seek a mentor or more senior employees to learn from by asking questions and being curious about RJC and the work
  • Create a development plan for your personal and career growth at RJC and be accountable for self development
  • Participate in technical, professional and community organizations
  • Develop new areas of expertise by shadowing experts/approaching others for mentorship or taking additional training/courses

  • Monitor your development against action plans from performance reviews and be accountable for self development
  • Provide leadership on technical issues – through participation in task groups, practice areas, corporate activities

Business

  • Better understand how to assess clients, either internal or external needs by learning their business
  • Volunteer to assist with strategic and market-leading business development and proposals and look for additional work opportunities while on site
  • Practice being responsive to internal and external needs/communications in a professional manner such as maintaining regular contact with designated clients on projects
  • Foster positive relationships with clients and other members of the design and construction team through phone calls, project meetings, and site visits
  • Monitor budgets during construction; anticipate potential cost overruns and take action
  • Monitor schedules during construction; anticipate potential delays and take action

Leadership

  • Complete work independently and with high quality
  • Gain awareness of RJC’s various areas of specialty expertise through networking and mentorships
  • Suggest or develop new approaches to production to improve quality
  • Suggest or develop new approaches to internal processes
  • Seek small opportunities to lead within project scope
  • Complete available Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings and frameworks to be a more diverse leader and contribute to team-specific and RJC-wide goals
  • Responsible for understanding, complying and participating in RJC’s HSE Program including completing required training, participating in hazard identification, assessment and control and informing their People Leader of any unsafe acts or conditions
