Project Technologist

Technical

  • Organize designs and specifications, field notes and reports, investigation records and report drafts
  • Formulate restoration programs and recommend the project concept to the client
  • Explore and present multiple engineering options to meet client needs
  • Achieve accreditation and professional recognition at the highest levels (e.g. P.Tech, PMP, etc.)
  • Maintain expertise in the latest industry standards, municipal standards and product development
  • Develop and implement sustainability principles in all design
  • Foster technical excellence and innovation within RJC
  • Adapt ideas and schemes quickly and effectively to the project constraints
  • Provide peer reviews or back checks

People Development

  • Monitor your development against action plans from performance reviews and be accountable for self development
  • Develop and disseminate special expertise in software applications
  • Identify opportunities to expose junior employees to clients
  • Support, coach and mentor team members to develop their skills and achieve their potential
  • Organize, perform, attend in-house seminars and “brown-bag” lunch sessions on important technical, workplace and new initiatives
  • Share technical knowledge and answers questions in an encouraging manner
  • Actively works at building relationships to develop a network of internal and external contacts
  • Identify and discover meaningful ways to recognize junior team members
  • Undertake external leadership development courses
  • Participate in and lead technical organizations

Business

  • Understand and meet the client’s needs and clearly demonstrate to the client that their needs have been met
  • Maintain existing client relationships and foster emerging relationships
  • Foster positive relationships with clients and other members of the design and construction team through phone calls and project meetings
  • Organize projects and develop work plans to provide superior service to the client
  • Anticipate, identify and meet client needs, readjust priorities and respond to pressing and changing client demands
  • Oversee construction administration
  • Lead the client feedback process
  • Participate in financial planning within team
  • Monitor and control job costs
  • Contribute to setting financial goals for the group and manage production costs
  • Apply knowledge of business principles to meet team goals, achieve financial stability and ensure long term growth with regards to RJC’s organizational strategy
  • Remain current on our market – both fees and levels of services by keeping an open dialogue with the business
  • Produce strategic and market-leading business proposal and negotiate competitive and realistic fees
  • Initiate timely invoicing and resolve fee and payment disputes quickly and effectively
  • Seek further development courses and education in business management

Leadership

  • Manage team on projects
  • Act as a coach for junior team members and dedicate time to development
  • Hold meetings with the team to establish project goals and priorities
  • Prepare and manage the “Project Management Plan” (or similar work plans)
  • Resolve project priorities in a timely manner
  • Address priorities and resource needs with Group Leader
  • Maintain regular communication with team members on issues pertinent to the client project
  • Provide clear linkages between current projects, RJC long-term goals and client satisfaction to the business
  • Gain awareness of RJC’s various areas of specialty expertise (e.g. through networking, shadowing, mentorship, attending internal events, etc.)
  • Suggest or develop new approaches to production to improve quality
  • Understand / improve organizational standards, policies and practices in achieving results
  • Address priorities and resource needs with Group Leader
  • Complete available Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings and frameworks to be a more diverse leader and contribute to team-specific and RJC-wide goals
  • Help other teams in RJC to obtain/ increase work; “cross sell” by understanding all the different service offerings, leveraging your network in RJC or speaking to colleagues about current project work and looking for opportunities to collaborate
  • Responsible to make sure hazard assessments are done and organizing safety paperwork for clients
