Field Coordinator / Project Leader

Technical

  • Perform field review of structural components of buildings under construction
  • Conduct periodic field reviews with field review representatives
  • Schedule daily tasks/job sites for field review team
  • Review drawings pre IFC for errors/constructability
  • Review drawings for changes to be made
  • Mentor field review team members
  • Mentor/offer advice to engineers on design related issues

People Development

  • Support, coach and mentor team members to develop their skills and achieve their potential
  • Share technical knowledge and answers questions in an encouraging manner
  • Assist newer engineers to understand constructability of complex issues
  • Actively works at building relationships to develop a network of internal and external contacts
  • Identify and discover meaningful ways to recognize junior team members
  • Organize, perform, attend in-house seminars and “brown-bag” lunch sessions on important technical, workplace and new initiatives
  • Attend conferences and help ensure junior staff are included in such opportunities
  • Serve/contribute on technical committees and organizations both internally and/or externally
  • Develop and disseminate special expertise within RJC’s existing fields through mentorship and act a constant for others to turn to
  • Maintain contacts in the university/research communities
  • Publish/contribute to technical papers
  • Contribute to the development of new areas of expertise at RJC by understanding and remaining current to the market and industry
  • Expands personal knowledge base and areas of technical competency though diverse experiences, training/courses and networking
  • Undertake external leadership development courses

Business

  • Maintain existing client relationships and foster emerging relationships
  • Create and establish a network of relationships and industry contacts to source and deliver business opportunities on both the revenue and cost side
  • Organize projects and develop work plans to provide superior service to the client
  • Anticipate, identify and meet client needs, readjust priorities and respond to pressing and changing client demands
  • Understand and meet the client’s needs and clearly demonstrate to the client that their needs have been met
  • Assist Project Engineers in developing budgets for field review activities and monitor over the course of construction
  • Remain current on our market – both fees and levels of services by keeping an open dialogue with the business
  • Ensure group work meets schedules and budgets
  • Generate revenue by developing new markets and creating repeat business from clients by providing high levels of service
  • Liaise with Document Controllers on shop drawings, RFIs and other project submittals
  • Manage budgets for larger scale field projects
  • Deal directly with project stakeholders and existing/potential clients
  • Review drawings pre IFC for errors/constructability
  • Review drawings for changes to be made
  • Monitor client service and satisfaction levels and ensure that they stay high through use of the Company’s client survey
  • Pursue new methods, implement and execute best practices in the delivery of superior client service where possible
  • Participate in financial planning within team
  • Forecast and plan workload for the group based on the project pipeline and team capacities
  • Seek further development courses and education in business management

Leadership

  • Act as a coach for junior team members and dedicate time to development
  • Manage day-to-day operations of field staff and other DE/PEs that may be working on the project (under the supervision of the Group Leader)
  • Prepare and manage the “Project Management Plan” (or similar work plans)
  • Address priorities and resource needs with Group Leader
  • Ensure resources are strategically allocated to maximize local opportunities
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels (hire / terminate appropriately qualified staff when appropriate)
  • Maintain regular communication with team members on issues pertinent to the client project
  • Provide clear linkages between current projects, RJC long-term goals and client satisfaction to the business
  • Understand / improve organizational standards, policies and practices in achieving results
  • Solicit and value others’ input and expertise to help form specific decisions or plans
  • Is aware of RJC’s areas of specialty expertise
  • Contribute to the achievement of RJC’s vision and long term plans (strategies, goals, measures) by defining a comprehensive course of action at the local level
  • Help other teams in RJC to obtain/ increase work; “cross sell” by understanding all the different service offerings, leveraging your network in RJC or speaking to colleagues about current project work and looking for opportunities to collaborate
  • Complete available Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings and frameworks to be a more diverse leader and contribute to team-specific and RJC-wide goals
  • Responsible to make sure hazard assessments are done and organizing safety paperwork for clients
  • Accountable for ensuring the HSE Program is communicated, understood and complied with by all levels of employees; providing employees with required training and equipment; informing employees of health and safety hazards; and ensuring continuous improvement of the overall program
